Ranchlands is seeking a ranch or partnership with a ranch owner as a home for a herd of 1000+ buffalo. For details email info@ranchlands.com. We are also now accepting ranch management proposals/inquiries.

Our mission at the Zapata is to create a

working ranch model that views the land as a

multidimensional resource

anching is one of our nation’s oldest traditions and it continues to play a key role in the evolution of the new West. Our mission at the Zapata is to create a working ranch model that views the land as a multidimensional resource capable of sustaining a healthy ecosystem alongside a suite of land-based businesses. As stewards of the land, we feel that we are uniquely positioned to care for the landscapes that support our livelihood.

We believe in managing with an eye toward the whole. At the Zapata, our holistic management means that our bison herd thrives alongside the vast array of wild animals with which we share our valley. It also helps us identify and target ecological hotspots that we can address that require special attention to promote native plant growth and control invasive species.

We believe in hard work, knowing that our ambitious conservation goals require careful monitoring, detailed planning, and active management to see them to fruition. We also know that our clients expect the best from our hospitality operation, and our goal is to provide a once-in-a-lifetime for each guest that visits our ranch.

We believe in education, sharing our methods and our story with other ranchers and the general public. Ranching’s important and increasing role in western conservation is an important story to tell, and Ranchlands’ education programs reach thousands of people each year on the Zapata and our sister ranch, the Chico Basin. We also believe that learning is a continuous process for ourselves as well, and we regularly seek out experts in our field to exchange ideas and find ways to improve our management model.

We believe in enjoying what we do, and we believe it shows. We feel privileged to be living on the land and living from the land, and we try to share that enthusiasm with each visitor to our ranch.
